A chunk of the pavement in Garitsa bay has been destroyed as a result of yesterday's stormy weather. Strong south-easternly gales (maximun wind gust reached 95 km/h!!) hit our island (as well as most of the Ionian islands), creating some serious damage. Trees fell, roofs have been blown out and some parts of road network have suffered from damage which gales created.
Below, some images from Garitsa, near the Corfu Palace Hotel. You can see that a whole chunk of the pavement has been destroyed by the gales and by the force of the surf hitting the walls of the promenade.
Garitsa bay has seen many storms with southern winds in the past but seriously nothing like this before!
